Then we are going to look at how all these tools and the ones that we have learned before can combine together to create an exciting interactive Smart Lesson.

Advanced Pens & Tools

Magic Pen

A recent addition to Smart Notebook 10 is the Magic pen. This is a very useful tool when using the Smartboard in a classroom. The magic pen can be found in the Smart Toolbar under this icon:

The Magic Pen has three different uses.
1. Spotlight - Drawing a circle, or something close to it, blackens out the screen and creates a spotlight using the circular shape you created. You can drag that shape across the screen to highlight certain objects.

You can expand the size of the spotlight by placing the cursor inside the spotlight and left click moving the mouse/finger towards the edge of the spotlight to expand or towards the middle of the spotlight to make it smaller. Move the spotlight by clicking on the blackened area and dragging it. To close it click the red X above the spotlight.

2. Zoom - You can zoom into an object by drawing a square with the magic pen. Once you do the square expands towards you in a 3D motion.

Zoom has the same options as spotlight. You can resize it by clicking inside the box and dragging and moving. Move the zoom box by dragging your finger outside the box. You close with the red X.

3. Disappearing Ink - The third option of the Magic Pen is disappearing ink. Anything you draw with the Magic Pen that is not a circle or square will be read by the Smartboard as Disappearing Ink.

Once you draw the ink will disappear in 10 seconds. It fades out slowly.

None of the items you create with the magic pen will become objects. So you cannot manipulate them like you can other objects.

Screen Shade

The Screen Shade can be accessed from the Smart Toolbar with this icon:

Screen Shade is used to hide certain parts of the screen so that objects can be revealed. Clicking the Screen Shade icon will place a gray screen over the Smart Notebook page.

You can move the screen from the left, right and up and down. Place your finger/cursor on the small concave circle on the screen at one of the four sides. Then you can move the screen. You can only move it in two directions and not move it in all four. To remove the screen click the red X in the upper right.

Full Screen

Choose the Full Screen icon from the Smart Toolbar to show your presentation on the fill screen, minus the Tabs, Menus and Toolbars.
